“Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing but a woman who fears the Lord shall be praised…”

In line with the theme, SCC aims not only to hone students’ skills and abilities in sports, LitMus (Literary and Musical Contest) and dance competitions but also to promote confidence within the students who are said to be possessing the charm, beauty and wit. It has been an annual practice of the school to look for the deserving pair to be crowned Mr. & Ms. SCC, but unlike other institutions who does the same, SCC still limits and even encourages the participants to foster the wholesome image of the school.

The search commenced with a pictorial at the pool with the contestants swim wear and at the multi-purpose building with their casual attire. There were seven pairs who joined the search; four pairs from the secondary level (from freshmen to senior) and three pairs from the college (BARE, COED, 4-in-1). It was on the third night of the Intramurals (September 26, 2007) when the impressive talent night happened. Contestants showcased their diverse talents in singing, dancing and acting. The judges and the audience were amazed with their performance but the excellent performance of the sophomores outshone them all.

The moment had come, last night of the Intramurals, the Coronation night and giving of awards for the deserving ones took place at the multi-purpose building. Excitement was transparently seen on the faces of the audience and from the contestants. The pageant was hosted by the dynamic Governor of the BARE Department, Philip Brent M. Cariaga and by Ms. Mantua from the faculty. The judging was on the back to zero basis and contestants were judged by, of course, beauty and intellect. The contestants were very nervous, yet eager to know the result handed by the judges. Ms. Jennelyn Timosa, an HRM student and Mr. Gilbert Pocon, a Sophie, grabbed many awards and even the crown for Mr. and Ms. SCC. Despite the given result, the other contestants were sport enough to greet the new Mr. & Ms SCC with a handshake. The commendable conquest of Mr. & Ms. SCC 2007 cheered the audience more with their reigning walk. The pageant was really a remarkable moment.

For the enhancement and development of the Sunrisers, SCC (Sunrise Christian College) held its 10th Intramurals last September 24-28, 2007. The affair indeed became a successful one with the cooperation of every student in college, high school, elementary and even the faculty and staff inside the campus. Various game competitions were prepared for the revelation of everyone’s capabilities and strength in indoor and outdoor games. Cheer dance competition, literacy and musical, beauty pageant and even those sweat flowing but yet exciting games really challenged the Sunrisers to compete and fight with determination to gain the wreath of victory.

The whole event commenced with a motorcade from SCC campus going to the city proper, with them the Sunrisers was the troop of the school’s drum and bugle corps. Officially, it was opened with torch lightning by the two students of the College of Education namely; Kristoffer Aparejado and Je-Ann Tabunan, Dr. Samuel B. Cariaga, SCC President and his mother Mrs. Avelina B. Cariaga took the honor of raising the SCC flag. Then it was seconded with the banner raising which was participated by the different departments, two representatives each. The 4-in-1 team from the college department bagged the first prize.

The fourth day competition was attended by the active Sunrisers who joined the various games that help them to polish their unveiled capabilities. Everybody had shown their potentials efficiently. When the time was up for the awarding of prizes, everybody got excited to hear that proclamation on who will be crowned to be the ultimate and over all champion. The podium was filled with clapping, whistling and shouting upon waiting the announcement of the fortunate winner. At least, the College of Education was the one declared to be over all champion for they were very active and they also posses the proficiency that they had shown to everybody which made them precedent among the line of contenders.

On Literacy and Musical contest, the participants gave their best of their talents in singing, dancing and on comical skit contest. Again, the College of Education got the first prize for the comical skit which was seconded by the BARE Department. Unity and hard work became the bases that led them to victory.

It was really a very exhausting yet exciting event that happened this year in SCC. It could also be an encouragement for those who didn’t win, to strive hard, the next time.
